SUMMARY
 
The Safety Manager oversees the company-wide execution of the company’s safety program by playing a critical role in promoting a safety-first culture, establishing and administering safe work policies and procedures, creating and implementing a comprehensive facility safety education and training program designed to protect the safety of personnel in various working environments, conducting regular safety inspections, driving continuous improvement across all operations, and ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. 
 
 
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, implement and manage safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Plan, implement and manage programs to train managers, leads and employees in work safety practices, fire prevention, emergency planning, job-related safety tasks and correct handling techniques for chemicals and toxins (SDS), equipment, and other materials. 
  • Inspect building facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented/corrected. 
  • Lead the preparation of safety and health programs, policies, and standard operating procedures that reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, and financial losses.
  • Ensure the company's safety policies and procedures are being applied consistently.
  • Develop, lead and enforce company strategy of outstanding safety through behavior-based initiatives, human organizational performance, personal accountability and ownership of safety as a core focus.
  • Collaborates with leadership and functional teams to develop and implement safety programs, policies and procedures that instill a safety culture with active employee involvement, strong leadership, and teamwork. 
  • Conduct and manage site risk assessments and provides recommendations for corrective actions to Safety Steering Committee.
  • Develop, benchmark, maintain, and measure progress against key performance indicators, while driving continuous improvement of safety and security plans, policies, and best practices across the organization.
  • Monitor lost-time injuries/illnesses and assist with worker’s compensation claims.
  • Interface with federal, state and local regulatory authorities as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS/BA) in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years experience in manufacturing safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) / Associate Safety Professional (ASP) / Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) a plus.
  • Expert knowledge of occupational safety and health administration standards, department of transportation regulations, environmental, and related risk management standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills and computer skills
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or government regulations and write reports, proposals, procedures and guidelines, and business correspondence 
  • Strong initiative and follow-up skills
  • Strong leadership skills 
  • Skills, including Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Solid planning, organizational skills, and effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to negotiate with stakeholders to promote or sell ideas or concepts
  • Demonstrated knowledge of analytical risk assessment techniques
  • Ability to collaborate with functional counterparts within the organization at the earliest stages of planning and development to meet objectives
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently and with limited direction
